Content is King
I remember watching a DVD feature of the making of Pixar's 'Monster's Inc.' Academy Award nominated director Pete Docter was talking about their creative development process for the movie. He emphasized how at Pixar, "Story is King." They spend months and sometimes even years developing the story. They write, storyboard, rewrite, try it out, edit, test it out with their audience, rewrite, etc., until the story is solid. Only once they have a great story to built upon do they begin designing, casting, animating, producing, editing, and releasing. The continuing successes of each one of their movies show this attention to a quality story.
The same is true for websites, but instead of "Story is King," for websites, "Content is King." A website is at it's simplest form a vehicle for providing content to the user. As such, the most attention paid to a webite should be in developing the highest quality content for the user. Before a slick design, dynamic functionality, and release; the content should be written, tested, edited, rewritten, and edited again, etc. Only once you have a solid base of content can you then enhance it with design and functionality.
One of the best things a client can do for their website is to make their Content King!
